                        The Drop out Rate


 Every school day, about 7,000 students decide to drop
out of school – a total of 1.2 million students each year


 Only about 70% of entering high school freshman graduate
every year. Without a high school diploma, young
people are less likely to succeed in the workforce.


 Each year, our nation loses $319 billion in potential
earnings associated with the dropout crisis.

                                      The Rate of Abortions


• From 1973 through 2008, nearly 50 million legal abortions
occurred.


• In 2008, 1.21 million abortions were performed, down
from 1.31 million in 2000.


• Nearly half of pregnancies among American women
are unintended, and four in 10 of these are terminated by
abortion.

 

 

                              The Rate of Incarceration


• More than one in every 100 adults in America are in jail or prison.
• On any given day, over 1.5 million children in this country--approximately 2% of the minorchildren have a parent serving a sentence in a state or federal prison.

 

• African-American children nine times more likely
and Hispanic children three times more likely thanwhite children to have a parent in prison

 

                                                  HIV/AIDS

 

• Girls and women 15–19 years old had the largest
number of reported cases of Chlamydia and Gonorrhea
in 2009 of any age group.


• Over 61,000 young people, ages 13– 29, were estimated
to be living with HIV in the U.S in 2007.


• This age group accounts for 31% of new HIV infections


• Most young people with HIV/AIDS were infected by SEXUAL CONTACT
